bleh, politics

i don't like politics. i don't like when people passionately discuss them ignorantly. i don't like having to rank issues when trying to decide which politician to support because too many of them feel of utmost importance. i don't like how stressful it is to 'make the right choice' when there's an electoral college in place (can anyone help me with this one? i still don't get what the benefit is??).

all this aside, i AM excited for the 2008 election. i'm excited that there is a black man who has been nominated to run for office. i'm excited that there is a woman striving to become our next vp. i'm excited to tell my daughter she can grow up to be whatever she desires-- even the president of the united states. it's been a long journey to get to 2008, i'm grateful to those who went before to clear the way. what a great nation.

five months = drool, a lot of drool

getting-ready-for-bed-laugh-fest
haven's first swing
(*does it count as a 'first swing' if you only move five inches to and fro?)
(**check out that line of drool-- pretty impressive. yea, we're pretty proud)
she LOVED it and watching the other kids swing too

i was looking back over recent pictures to find some to post today and laughed. every picture i liked had at least some slobbery goodness in it. i tried to post the least 'wet' photos. oh well. it certainly captures our current stage of life-- wet. very. wet. no sign of teeth yet, but we are on the lookout!

you've gotta read this...

since our family has grown from two to three, my habit of reading more than a magazine has flown out the window. however, one of my sweet friends, bethany, recently recommended a book that i could not put down. i'm usually not one to trade sleep for a book, but these 250 pages were unbelievably wonderful and i'm excited to reread it once jon is finished.

the book is entitled The Shack and is currently on the bestseller list (for good reason!). if you haven't read it yet, there is not another fiction i would urge you to read more. without giving the plot away, this is the story of a spent man who has had to endure unspeakable suffering coming to God with the hardest of hard questions and finding Him Loving and Good. i'm not a scholar, but found it scripturally honoring and accurate in its portrayal of God. to read this book is to be challenged and changed.

updating

ta-dah! we've changed our layout (i don't even want to tell you how long it took for me to decide on a white background...) or rather, i've changed our layout. i think i've officially taken over our blog from my death-defying husband ( i was going to write 'fabulous' or 'sweet', but what husband wants to be those when you can be 'death-defying'?).

in the process, i came across a BUNCH of blogs i had no idea my friends were behind!! if you blog, and aren't listed on the left, let me know-- i TOTALLY want a window into your world too.

i come home from the store to find he's eaten our unused, vanilla scented garbage bags.

in lieu of laundry

this afternoon was one of those times when the brevity of infancy overtook the duty of chores. how sweet to relish the joyfulness of a tiny baby exploring.
